Brian P. Marcus

Visual Art – Columbus

My name is Brian Marcus. I was born in 1959 and raised in Columbus, Ohio. The youngest of 3 boys, my parents were both teachers. My father and mother were instrumental in making sure that my passion, art , was something I should persue no matter what obstacles got in my way. My father\'s hobby was slip molding and glazing of ceramics. He even had a special room in our basement with a kiln. I remember how he would make the slip, pour slip into molds, separate the molds, paint and glaze, and fire the clay pieces, and give them to relatives and friends, personalizing it for each person. I was always drawing. whether it was from characters on television or ones I made up. I never cared whether or not anyone saw them. I just had to create them. I have formal training at The Ohio State University in Fine Arts. Though I struggled through college, not sure if my style was good enough, I dropped out, got married, and returned to finish. I feel though the experience was important to my growth, I hadn\'t found my style yet. I loved surrealism and drew and painted in this style for some years. Surrealism was a startng point but I was getting more and more abstract and eventually I became an Abstract organic expressionist.
