Who would have known, that just a birth date, or even the birth weight of her daughter Angelina-Marie, would also become the name of her Independent clothing line; Ate 11. With Angelina-Marie being her sole ambition, in January of 2012, Mary Ashanti transformed her playing with fabric, into utilizing her creations to create a new couture street wear brand. “Taking everyday t-shirts to the next level, the mission is to show that street wear can be more than just the average tee. It can be fun, classy, and elite. Ate 11, speaks to every individual” states Mary, BUT, the designs just don’t end with t-shirts. Headbands, bowties, and bracelets have also been designed by Ms. Ashanti, to compliment any situation. How does it get done? Well, each sweatshirt and t-shirt are high quality screen printed, which are originally hand designed to add flare, all in-housing messages the founder herself, wishes the world to know and hear. Ate 11 isn’t limited to just one audience though, political figures, artistic entities, and any trendy individuals can find an apparel to entice and complete their style. It’s about self-expression. Thus far, Ate 11 has sponsored Soul Rock Entertainment, and has been featured in promo videos shot by MJQ photography, as well as featured in the March 2012 edition of XXL Magazine, and blogs such as Dope Imagination and Fashion by Gabby.
