Visual Art – Northern Rivers

I left school early to pursue a creative career and started as an apprentice jeweller in the Byron Bay Arts and Industry Estate in 1993, which lead to a year overseas working in a boutique jewellery studio in Hawaii. At 19 I decided to move to Sydney to pursue Graphic design and multimedia work. I did that with a passion for the next 13 years... until I decided it was time to and move away from digital media and virtual art towards a more tactile immediate experience of creativity and personal expression. I wanted to get my hands \'dirty\' and to that end I fell in love with clay and ceramics during the introduction year at the National Art School in Sydney. I completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2011 and graduating top of the class. In mid 2013 I moved back to the Northern Rivers and in early 2014 I opened my own ceramic studio in Mullumbimby called ‘Moonrise Studios’. It has a retail exhibition gallery space at the front where I showcase and sell my own work as well as the work of up to 20 more local artists, designers and crafts people. I rent spaces to artists rather than taking a commission on their sales. I love to explore new ideas all the time.. I work with a wide variety of ceramic mediums, including stoneware, porcelain, terracotta, oxide washes, matt glazes, slip casting, scraffito decorations, japanese tissue transfers, terrasigillata, wheel thrown or hand built.
