Visual Art – Minneapolis

Brenda Khothsombath (Brenders) Biography My Art: I love it when I make marks that seem organic. I believe mistakes take me to a place I would have never gone and figuring out how to build off them is where I can be most creative. Art for me is a process of mistakes, experimentation, feelings, thoughts, and how it is dealt with in each work. Disturbing, more so controversial and shocking is a response I love to receive for my art because it excites me to know my art can stir-up debate and conversation. The human figure, especially of women is a favorite subject matter to follow and entertain me. I keep subject matter and style open and always try to do things differently with every work. However, drawing portraits has always been amusing and enjoyable; in fact, I like how I can capture a person in a certain moment in time, and knowing that, can never reproduce that work in exactitude. Currently, I am not afraid to get dirty with my work, it is actually preferable. Physically touching charcoal and/or paint is giving me an opportunity to be even closer to the medium, to explore and manipulate it. I enjoy making work that I am able to complete within one to two days. To how I respond and deal with the many parts of my life, I realized it translates into my art. Having a short attention span, it is best I set a time limit to how long I spend with a piece. I have learned I like to work quickly, also the challenge of limiting my time helps me feel obligated to finish, able to focus, and gain an adrenaline needed in fulfilling what I search for in my relationship with art. My Thoughts: I do appreciate the skill it takes to make marks and have it resemble the real life thing; however, I enjoy showing the transition/process of art by having some work look unfinished. By doing so, I believe the medium used isn\'t lost in looking at the result of recreating or capturing. Being able to see part of the process creates more appreciation of what it takes to make a piece and that it\'s an image created with mediums such as paint or charcoal, etc. In all, I\'m huge on making something that is aesthetically pleasing which also plays around with realism and trying to show the process by revealing the purity of the medium. I like to incorporate pop culture or iconic figures as a way to relate and connect to viewers. Overall, I am a quiet person who speaks loud through art. It is the things I do and make that my presence is known. I hope my art will leave a long, lasting impression in people’s mind, the essence of an imprint to remember me by. My interest in art expands into a variety of possible expressions that fit anyone\'s liking and needs. Call (612-306-1882) or email me. I am open for work and designing/creating for anyone interested in taking advantage of my artistic skill and ability.
