Hey thar! :) I was born and raised on a produce farm along the Hamakua coast of the Big Island. After high school I moved to the Bay Area for about 7 years, studying fashion design and getting a taste of city life. I've always loved creating in any and every way I could. Jewelry design was a great way to surround myself with gorgeous gemstones and other fun materials, while creating wearable pieces of art at the same time! I love getting to experiment with different styles and materials to see what sort of new things I can come up with. It's exciting!
I'm very inspired by colors and textures of natural things like plants and scenery, animals, and the natural variance of the materials themselves. Hawaii has embraced so many different cultures that their richness, melding, and contradictions also provide endless inspiration.
Well, the whole idea of RAW is pretty exciting! Especially being in a rural area, there usually isn't all that much going on in the nightlife arena. Creating an event for independent artists to gain exposure (and confidence), and build community is fantastic! It can be daunting to attempt something like this on your own. I would love if RAW could expand to Hilo on the Big Island!
Wow, that's a hard one! I'm just happy to be going round with the rest of the world. I have a very supportive family and partner, a wonderful dog (who happens to be chewing his rump in a not so wonderful way at the moment..), and I get to live in a place where I can swim in rivers that open into the ocean, grow my own fruits and vegetables, and eat all kinds of ono foods! (My heart is mostly located in my stomach)
