Jessica Calhoun

I use the human form to explore the boundaries between realism and surrealism. My paintings, a collection of portraits and figures for this exploration between body, mind, and space. I pull from the aesthetics of the lush and beautiful as well as that of gore; the use of jeweled colors invokes the idea of beauty, transforming the body in to a terrain for discovery, revealing the splendor underneath. My works are deeply psychological and are considered to be individual experiences with ones self, translated in to a physical and sometimes violent, but stunning visual experience.
