Jack Berry exudes an Elvis-like swagger embodied by his hard-edged guitar and a crooning style steeped in old timey goodness. Hailing from Reno, Nevada, Berry is just as at home playing in smoke-filled casinos and dive bars and his music is being heard in one. His debut album “Heathen Heart” showcases Berry’s unorthodox style, which he describes as “south-paw” music. His sound incorporates the soulfulness of church hymns with rock n’ roll influences ranging from the Beatles through Pearl Jam and up to the Dead Weather. His self-taught guitar skills and song writing abilities somehow manage to create a familiar grit and sound that you’ve never heard before.
Berry creates a distinct heaviness with his electric guitar, accompanied by thick bass and drums for the upbeat crowds. His lyrics are refreshingly honest without taking away from the pure rock n’ roll vibe he radiates.
