Visual Art – Phoenix

James Day is a contemporary sculptor working with clay, wood, acrylics, and various mixed media to create abstract, cubist, and visionary realistic sculptures & paintings. Born in Kansas in 1970 to sculptor Cathie Ann Cordova, James was inspired by her to become a sculptor as well. Early on his work evolved from pottery and small figurative sculptures to sci-fy/3D character art & drawing, and later into what he likes to think of as visionary realism. It wasn\'t long before abstract and surrealism became his inspirations. Small marks in the clay and their relation to other marks seemed to play a larger and larger role in his work. Years later those concepts turned into the symbolic abstract or what some think of as a Mayan style of carving. It\'s a language of relation expressed through lines, form, and movement.
