Performing Art – Long Beach

Jay Carlon is a freelance dance artist based in Los Angeles. He has danced with TSOU Dance Arts, LA Movement Arts, and Nickerson-Rossi Dance; as well as performed works by Donald McKayle, Reggie Wilson, John Jasperse, Keith Johnson, Rennie Harris, and Holly Johnston. He received his MFA in Dance at CSU Long Beach and BFA in Dance, Choreography at UC Irvine where he served as Pavel Zustiak’s rehearsal director for Blackbird (2009). He has presented work at Highways Performance Space, John Pennington’s ARC, and the Broad Stage. Carlon received a Medici Circle Fellowship in 2009, where he collaborated with NYU students and presented work at the International Composer’s Festival in Spain under the guidance of Dr. Dinu Gezzo and Dr. Lisa Naugle. This past summer, he co-produced a student concert at the American Dance Festival. Carlon has taught various styles including modern, hip hop, Contact Improvisation, and ballet at Allan Hancock College, UC Irvine, CSU Long Beach, CSU Dominguez Hills, Santa Monica College, American College Dance Festival Association (Baja Region), and The Wooden Floor.
