Visual Art – Portland

I started doing wood works when I got my first apartment. I needed furniture and could not find pieces that were of the quality and uniqueness that I desired. So, I made my own from reclaimed materials. As I grew and developed as a woodworker I began to experiment more and more with form and color. I came to consider wood working as a great artistic outlet and began to approach it from that perspective. When I decided to show some of my photography, I ran into the same dilemma as I had when looking for furniture, so I began making frames that had patterns, shapes and textures that complimented my photographs. From there I continued to make create new objects. I discovered that I really love the challenge of finding ways to use things that are not considered useful or have been discarded. I find great pleasure in creating beauty in a way that minimizes the environmental impact of creating art. It’s a way of not only expressing myself creatively through art but exercising my values concerning the environment. I love wood working so much that I decided not to pursue a career as an RN after I finished college and pursue art full time.
