Michele Karmin

Music – Philadelphia

Michele Karmin is an alternative singer/songwriter and electronic artist from the greater Philadelphia region. After releasing multiple cross-genre projects over the span of several years, she debuted her latest record, Let Me Introduce Myself ... Again in January 2012. This was her first release upon teaching herself piano in early 2009 and marked a significant leap in her musical self discovery. While completely refining and recreating her sound, this record demonstrated how she honed more deeply into her craft as an artist, songwriter, and music producer. Let Me Introduce Myself…Again, showcases Karmin’s signature emotional vocals and insightful lyrics, but she branches out sonically too, incorporating the increased use of the piano in her songs, as well as flourishes from the electronic world. Her piano-ballad-meets-electronica cover of Collective Soul’s “Heavy,” for instance, features Tori Amos like vocals with the musical tone of a Portishead song. And original numbers like “Six Years” and the title track are piano-centric with hints of ethereal, ambient noise and orchestration added in, respectively, while simultaneously being infused with Karmin’s soulful vocals. Whether focusing on her relationship with a lover, a friend, God, or the world in general, Karmin’s music reflects a deep-seated interest in authenticity and the search for truth. Karmin says that fans can expect more of this from her forthcoming album. “The Realest Part of You\" is about nakedness in a sense,” Karmin says. “The good, the bad, the ugly, everything. It’s the heart, it’s the sin, the guilt. It’s just very human.\"
