Patricia Benitez is a formally trained fine artist, specializing in oil painting. She has a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from New Jersey City University, has been featured in several publications both local and international, has won the prestigious Karen Ziccardi Award consecutively in 2008 and 2009, and has exhibited in solo and group shows throughout New Jersey and New York. She currently works as an independent fine artist/designer in the NJ/NY area.
A slightly sadistic need to repulse fuels her. She works by manipulating darkness, anatomy, and mood. She distorts the human body in ways that have caused reactions of disgust and discomfort. She presents a darkened reality, which she forces her viewers to face. She uses her work as an expression of her desire to manipulate emotions, to perplex, to overwhelm.
