Rebecca Dankovich

Performing Art – Chicago

Rebecca Dankovich graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a BFA in Dance. During her time at Illinois, Rebecca honed her passion for choreography in the department by immersing herself in numerous unique choreographic processes. She received a Talented Student Tuition Award and served as a Mark Morris Dance Group Shadow, in which selected students had the privilege to shadow the company during their residency at the university and received full scholarship to the company’s summer intensive. Rebecca also discovered her passion for teaching in the Creative Dance for Children program in the department, and served as a teaching assistant for hip hop and jazz dance elective courses as well. She has performed in works choreographed by Johanna Meyer, Jennifer Monson, Sheldon Smith, Jessie Young and Abby Zbikowski. In her choreographic research, Rebecca works using a spectrum of physicality, ranging from very detailed and specific gestures to athletic, full body movement. In her work, she has developed an interest in the presentation of self, specificity in rhythm, texture and quality of movement, instinct and intuition, manipulation and relationships between self, space, sound and others.
