Visual Art – Chicago

Roy Villalobos is a self thought artist, arts educator and community organizer. His art influenced by surrealism in acrylic oil on canvas or scultpure. Roy is also an experienced graphic designer and much of his projects are within a cultural and social context targeting the Hispanic community. Over the past few years, Roy has become a respected and well-know muralist in the City of Chicago. His work has been commissioned from organizations in the public and private sector. A signature piece of his work is a 38 ft. high by 18 ft long public mural located in 1821 S. Allport St. titled, "Globalization". In 1998, the National Museum of Mexican Arts of Chicago invited him to submit a piece he made in San Luis Potosi, Mexico were he lived for several years, to the group exhibit for "Day of the Dead". In the year 2000 he moved back to his native Chicago in the Pilsen Community where he has been heavily involved with the art community. He has consulted several local non-profit organizations. Roy's commissions include several landscape murals at local restaurants to public art. He was ommissioned to paint a canvas commemorating Cesar Chavez to be placed at postal ofice in Pilsen in 2004. He was commissioned to paint a 17 ft. long mural by 4ft. high at Casa Aztlan, a community organization in 2006, titled "Reforma Laica". Another significant project was the art he created for the 34th Annual Salsedo Press May Day Blast event poster. Nationally he has was awarded the 1rst place Heineken Company national mural contest and his mural was installed for 3 years at the corner of Milwaukee Ave. and Paulina St. in Chicago, IL. In 2009 Roy was commissioned to create the trophy “Premios Coa” for Sauza Tequila Co., an award given for movie directors and the actor John Leguziamo. In 2009 was commissioned to paint a 47 ft long by 8 ft high mural for the Mc Aulife Elementary School Auditorium. Currently Roy has finished painting a 44 ft long by 4 ft high mural for a high school corridor. Recentrly created 8 watercolor illustrations for the Coca Cola Co. of the CONCACAF World Soccer Cup. Since 2006 Roy has been contracted to serve as an art teacher for The Northeastern University's Chicago Teachers Center. Member of the world wide Beinart Surreal Art Collective.
