Sierra Dickey

Visual Art – Salt Lake City

Sierra Dickey graduated with her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Utah State University, where she was awarded several scholarships and grants for her artistic abilities as well as academic excellence. Finishing her Bachelor’s degree in only four years, Sierra graduated at the early age of 22. Sierra has been developing her unique painting style through years of study and hard work. While very skilled in most mediums, Sierra likes to combine all mediums in order to achieve her desired affect based on the subject being represented. As a colorist, her colors and style are meant to imitate the emotions, like an aura, radiating from the figures. Keeping the color schemes of the figures simple while the background is manic keeps the paintings direct and easy to read. Her work maintains a delicate balance between chaos and balance, compliments and contrasts. Drawing inspiration from her study abroad in Europe as well as classical artist like Michelangelo, Leonardo Di Vinci, Bernini, and other European artist, Sierra emulates the classical European feel while giving it a modern twist. Her unique style is driven by her desire to bring back classical art that may have been forgotten. Taking subject matter from preexisting sculptures, she reinvents old classics and the way they are regarded today. Some of her favorite subjects she draws from are the Greek Tragedies. Sierra believes, “The Greeks really know how to tell a story and keep the audience empathetically intrigued.”
