The Contemporary Dance Company

Performing Art – Sacramento

No old school way of thinking here! New, fresh and exciting programs filled with innovative training, built to train each student on an individual basis. No two people are alike, we are all built differently with our strengths and weaknesses in different places. Yet all old school training is built to suit one body, mind and spirit. At CDC we believe each student deserves the same opportunity to thrive and flourish in their own way. Successful, amazing dancers can be produced through encouraging honest, consistent training. By meeting our students\' individual needs, we are able to produce stronger, more sound technical dancers, while still maintaining their individual uniqueness. Here at CDC you will receive the very best of old school tried and true technical teaching, without the limitations of old school beliefs. Lena has been fortunate to have trained under teachers as diverse as Helga Ishakata, founder of the Oakland Ballet-Ron Guidi, McGarry Gavin, Ballet Magique Entertainment founder, director and choreographer-Anthony Johnson, and award winning choreographer Ann Marie Garvin, of The Dancers\' Synectics Group. She has also studied at the New York\'s prestigious Broadway Dance Center, the world renowned The Edge Performing Arts Center in Los Angeles, home to a who’s-who of industry choreographers, teachers and performers, and a professional training facility for commercial dance, as well as the famed San Francisco Dance Center. She’s danced for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Oakland Ballet, Ballet Magique, and Bay Area Reach Out. She brings those eclectic influences together into her own choreography style, which has won her national recognition from Dance Educators of America, Sydney Performing Arts and Delta Children’s Ballet, among many others. She has choreographed more than 150 pieces a year, including a contemporary adaption of \"Where the Wild Things Are\" which she also directed and composed.
